This homemade pumpkin spice frappuccino is the best you’ll ever taste. Seriously. If you’re a fan of pumpkin spice, this refreshing drink is guaranteed to be your new favorite. Inspired by the popular Starbucks beverage, it’s sweet, creamy, and oh-so-comforting, perfect for a warmer fall day or whenever you’re craving those warm autumn flavors anytime of the year.
If you’ve been following my blog, you know that I’m a Starbucks girl. I’ve written a lot of content about their drinks, from a copycat version of Starbucks iced Americano to a complete list of Starbucks tea drinks. I’ve pretty much tried all of their selections and can tell you which the best Starbucks drinks are. At the top of my list is Starbucks pumpkin spice frappuccino, one of my all-time favorite fall coffees.
I don’t always have the time to go on a coffee run plus it can get pretty expensive, so I had to make my own at home. This pumpkin spice latte frappuccino is a delightful blend of sweet pumpkin puree, creamy milk, and warm spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Top it off with a generous swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice and you’ll have an insanely good drink to enjoy at home any time you want.
Serve it as a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up, a dessert alternative after a hearty meal, or include it in your fall menu as a special treat during gatherings with friends and family. It’s always a hit at fall brunch! It’s also perfect for those cozy moments when you just want to relax, diffuse a pumpkin spice essential oil blend, and take in all the good things that fall season has to offer.

Pumpkin spice frappuccino is thick, creamy, and velvety. It’s delicious as it is indulgent, that’s why it’s hard to believe that you can whip it up in 5 minutes or less, including prep time. Ingredients You Need
- Brewed espresso: Coffee forms the base of the frappuccino. I like to use brewed espresso or any strong coffee to make sure that the flavor comes through and balances nicely with the sweetness of the drink.
- Milk: Balances the boldness of the espresso and gives the drink the smooth, creamy, and velvety texture we all love. Use your milk of choice, whether it’s dairy or dairy-free – whole milk, full fat, 2%, skim, etc.
- Maple syrup: Provides natural sweetness that complements the pumpkin spice.
- Pumpkin puree: Thickens the drink and gives it an authentic pumpkin flavor. I recommend using fresh but feel free to use 100% pure canned pumpkin puree.
- Pumpkin pie spice: Gives the frappuccino with that iconic fall flavor. Use ready-made pumpkin pie spice or make your own by mixing cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves, or nutmeg.
- Ice cubes
- Whipped cream: Adds an extra layer of indulgence and makes the drink picture-perfect!
Step-By-Step Instructions
Can you believe that your favorite pumpkin spice frappuccino can be made in just 2 easy steps? Enjoy this one folks, because it can’t get easier than this! Just follow the simple instructions below to start making your delicious frosty drink.
Step 1: Blend all ingredients
Add all the ingredients, except the whipped cream, to a high-speed blender and blend until smooth.
Step 2: Garnish and serve
When done, divide the mixture evenly between two cups and garnish with optional whipped cream and a light dusting of cinnamon. To dust, add a bit of cinnamon to a small fine mesh strainer and gently tap it with a spoon while holding over the whipped cream.
Serve immediately and with a straw, if desired.
Substitutions
You might already have all the ingredients for this pumpkin spice latte frappuccino in your kitchen. If you’re missing one or prefer to use another ingredient, here are some ideal substitutions:
- Brewed espresso: Espresso is usually used in frappuccinos, but can be substitute with a cold brew coffee or any strongly brewed coffee of your choice.
- Maple syrup: No maple syrup? Substitute with honey or any simple syrup: plain, vanilla, or hazelnut are all complimentary. You can also use sugar-free syrup if preferred. Make sure to taste and adjust your sweetener depending on your personal preference!
- Pumpkin puree: If pumpkin isn’t available, you can use mashed bananas instead. While still delicious, your drink won’t have that strong pumpkin flavor so be sure to make the recipe again using pumpkin puree!
Variations
And if you thought that this frappe couldn’t get any better, it surely can with a few changes and additions. Try these equally yummy, equally indulgent variations:
- Triple Pumpkin Spice: Can’t get enough pumpkin spice? Top the frappuccino with pumpkin cream and drizzle with pumpkin spice syrup for the ultimate pumpkin spice treat!
- Dairy-free: Make your pumpkin spice latte frappuccino dairy-free by using non-dairy milk and whipped cream. Coconut milk is a great choice because it’s thicker and creamier than dairy milk, but almond milk and oat milk are also ideal.
- Mocha-flavored: Mix in a tablespoon of cocoa powder or a shot of chocolate syrup to add a rich mocha flavor to your frappuccino.
- Chai-flavored: A fan of chai tea? Replace the maple syrup with simple chai syrup or use a chai spice blend instead of pumpkin pie spice for a spicier, more complex flavor profile.
- Added caramel: Drizzle caramel sauce on top of your frappuccino and blend a bit into the mixture for an extra layer of sweetness.
- With nut butter: Add a scoop of almond or peanut butter to the blender for a nutty twist that pairs well with the pumpkin spice.
- With ice cream: Turn your frappe into a float by adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead of whipped cream.
Expert Tips
- Pre-chill the ingredients: I suggest using chilled espresso for a reason! Hot or warm liquid will melt the ice cubes before they even get blended. To make sure that your frappuccino is extra cold and refreshing, chill your brewed espresso before blending.
- Make it sweeter: Add vanilla syrup or any simple syrup of your choice on top of the maple syrup until you reach your desired level of sweetness.
- Make it creamier: Replace the milk with half and half or mix in some whipped cream before blending for a creamier frappe.
- Make it less acidic: If you’re sensitive to coffee, use cold brew instead of regular brewed espresso for a smoother and less acidic taste.
- Serve immediately: Serve your frappuccino immediately after blending for the best flavor and texture. It’s at its peak freshness and creaminess right after making it!
How to Store This Recipe
This drink won’t store well. I don’t recommend making this drink ahead or in bulk because it will become watered down when stored in the fridge. It only takes 5 minutes to make, anyway.
If you’d like to make it ahead, you can blend the coffee and pumpkin puree together, pour them into an ice cube tray to make coffee ice cubes, and keep them in the freezer. Blend them with the rest of the ingredients when you’re ready to use!
What to Serve with Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino
Pumpkin spice frappuccino is filling on its own, but it also pairs well with a variety of dishes for a filling snack. Enjoy it with a slice of cake, bread machine pumpkin bread, 4-ingredient banana bread, pumpkin and cream cheese muffins, or a few pieces of flourless cookies.
I enjoy it with some pumpkin pancakes with pancake mix or pumpkin pecan waffles for the ultimate fall combo! For some savory pairings, serve the frappe with a salad, sandwich, or a light pasta.
